09:00 – 09:30 Meeting at Tbilisi city centre. Drive to Natakhtari Airdrome.

10:00 – 11:30 Flight to Ushguli. Arrival.

12:00 – 14:00 Excursion & walk in Ushguli.

14:00 – 15:00 Picnic lunch in Ushguli.

15:00 – 18:00 Excursion & walk in Ushguli. Possible walk to Shkhara Glacier.

18:00 – 20:00 Flight back to Natakhtari.

20:00 – 20:30 Arrival in Natakhtari. Drive to Mtskheta.

21:00 Dinner at the restaurant in Mtskheta.

23:00 Drive to Tbilisi city centre.

Detailed Description of the Tour:

Early in the morning we meet at the Tbilisi city centre and drive to Natakhtari Airdrome to take a flight (app. 1.5h.) towards Svaneti, mountainous region of Georgia, Village Ushguli.

Svaneti, the most celebrated and mythological of Georgia’s mountain regions, land of the ‘Golden Fleece’ lies high up in the Greater Caucasus. Local people, Svans are fiercely committed to preserving their traditions. The Symbol of Svan community is the tower. These were built in the Middle Ages not only to protect clans from the threat of north Caucasian invaders and from Georgian nobles who at times sought to dominate the region, but also to protect clan from clan.

The village Ushguli is believed to be the highest permanently inhabited place in Europe. It lies below Mt. Shkhara (5068m) the highest peak in Georgia and the second highest in Caucasus. Its more than 20 ancient stone towers and the ongoing resilience of its population have led it to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Upon arrival in Ushguli we will have an excursion in the village and visit the local museum. In the mid day we will have a picnic lunch and afterwards continue our excursion in Ushguli. Most eager travelers will have an opportunity to take a light walk towards Mt. Shkhara Glacier (app.4 hours of walking) or do some horseback riding.

In the second half of the day we will fly back to Natakhtari and drive to Mtskheta to have a dinner in a local restaurant. After the dinner we will drive to Tbilisi city centre. End of the tour.

• Flight from Natakhtari Airdrome to Ushguli and back on a comfortable Helicopter (MI8). Total flight duration 3 hours.
• Drive from Tbilisi city centre to Natakhtari Airdrome and back.
