Detailed Description of the Tour:

Early in the morning we meet at the Tbilisi city centre and drive to ancient capital of Georgia, Mtskheta (30min drive). Here Georgians adopted Christianity in the beginning of 4th century and Mtskheta still remains the Headquarters of Georgian Orthodox Church. Here are a number of very significant archeological and religious monuments, dominated by the Cathedral Svetitskhoveli (11th C.) and the church of Jvari (6th Century). Mtskheta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After excursion in Mtskheta we continue our way along Georgian Military highway passing (with an excursion) spectacular Ananuri fortress, dramatic Aragvi river valley, over the Jvari Pass (2395) down to village Kazbegi.

The picturesque settlement, village Kazbegi is situated in a kind of amphitheatre of mountains, dominated by superb Mount Kazbek (5047m) - one of the six 5000 meter peaks of the Caucasus. The Sameba Church in Gergeti is beautifully situated on the hill above the town and provides splendid views of Mt. Kazbek. The region, with its many valleys and peaks is one of the most popular walking destinations in Georgia.

After excursion and lunch in Kazbegi if time permits we hire local 4Wd transport to drive us up to Sameba church.

In the second half of the day we drive back in the direction of Tbilisi. End of the tour.
