Known as the Georgian Shangri-La, Tusheti is an unforgettable remote mountain valley. Hidden behind a 3000 meter pass in the northeast corner of Georgia right up against the Daghestan (Russia) border, Tusheti is one of Georgia's great secrets. With the road only open three or four months a year its high mountain plateaus and valleys are dotted with villages marked out by their own distinctive stone towers.
Day 1: Arrive in Tbilisi airport, where you are provided "fast track" assistance through Customs and Passport Control and introduced to your tour leader. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight at the hotel. Day 2:
Long drive to Tusheti province. Arrival at Omalo in the evening. Visit of the winter village, the towers and your first views from Tusheti. Overnight in a traditional Tush house. L,D. Day 3: Hike/Ride around 5 hours to Gogrulta. Gogrulta is one of the most beautiful villages in the Tusheti region. In contrast to Omalo and Shenako, only few families live here. It is a secluded place where you can observe some very old traditions, way of life and working. Gogrulta is located at the top of a small summit which offers some very nice panoramas. Spend the evening with the family where you can assist (if you wish) the Tushi in milking the cows and producing some butter. Overnight in Goglurta at the private house. B,L,D. Day 4:
Today we hike/ride until Alazanis Tavi on the crests. At the hight of 3200m you will have an opportunity to admire a great part of the Tusheti area. Incredible panorama. We set up our camp by a river. This place offers a great view of the wild valley. Overnight in Tents. B,L,D. Day 5: We trek down and along Alazani River. We cross some shepherds’ huts. During the day we need to cross several times a small river without bridge. We set up the camp at the foot of the Nartzap pass. Overnight in Tents. B,L,D. Day 6:
We hike/ride over the Nartzap pass at fast 3000m high. We walk along some gorges, then down in the wild landscapes of this valley. At the end of the day we reach Saidumlo, our stay for the night. Overnight in Tents. B,L,D. Day 7: Before we reach the Pirikita valley, we walk/ride along a small lake. The first inhabited village of the Pirikita valley is Girevi, which we will pass. Then we go forward through a succession of Tush villages. We visit village Parsma and set up the camp between Parsma and Dartlo. Overnight in Tents. B,L,D. Day 8:
We hike/ride back to Omalo over Mirgvella pass. We reach Omalo in the end of the afternoon. We have a diner and a night in our house. Overnight in a traditional Tush house. B,L,D. Day 9: After the breakfast, departure to Tbilisi. Evening in Tbilisi. End of the Tour. Overnight at the hotel. B,L. Price includes: - Accommodations at the hotels and private village houses in Tusheti (2 nights in Tbilisi at the hotel, 2 nights in Omalo at private village house, 1 night in Goglurta at private village house, 4 nights in tents ).
