National ParksNearly 40 percent of Georgia’s territory is still forested and a large proportion is untouched by human hands. This is one of the reasons why there are 31 protected conservation areas. Included in these protected areas are nine National Parks with extensive hiking trails. Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is one of the biggest park in Europe. It occupies 68 000 hectares that equals to 1% of the total territory of Georgia. Second biggest National Park is Kolkheti National Parks that covers 26 700 hectares of the county's territory. Others are Kazbegi, Algeti, Tbilisi, Vashlovani, Tusheti, Mtirala.

Georgian National Parks present a great number of pleasant surprises and encounters with lots of beautiful blossoming plants. There are many endemic species of plants. Only on the territory of Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park there are about 2000 types of plants.

The National Parks are also rich for its fauna. There are many species of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibious. Wolves, bears, jackals, lynxes and other predators thrive in the virgin forests of Georgia. The mountains are also home to many hoofed animals including roe deer, red deer, chamois, wild boar, wild or bezoar goat.
