Cultural and historic tours in Georgia

Georgia has long been the crossroads of the world, not only an important stop on the silk trail, but set dead-centre of many of the great currents of history. A truly ancient nation and one of the world's oldest uninterrupted civilizations, its recorded history stretches back over 3000 years. Filled with ancient ruins, castles, churches, waterfalls, glaciers, mineral water springs, deserts and beaches, forests and steppes, it is truly a land apart.

Not quite Asian and certainly not really Middle Eastern, yet not fully European either, Georgia is an exotic mixture of influences not seen anywhere else.

Interesting facts:
  • The recently discovered Dmanisi hominid in the foothills of the lesser Caucasus provides a remarkable 1.8 million year old link with humankind's first transition from Africa to Europe and then Asia.
  • Christianity has been a state religion in Georgia since AD 330.
  • The Georgian language emerges from the mists of time in full possession of its own language group and is unrelated to any other. It is one of the oldest in the world, with its own distinctive alphabet, one of only 13 in the world.
Our favorite cultural and historic destinations are: Mtskheta ancient Capital of Georgia (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site), town Kutaisi (Gelati and Bagrati Cathedrals - UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site), Upper Svaneti (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site), Kakheti, Shatili, Tusheti, Khevsureti and Kazbegi.
